Why Obama?
By contributor | April 9, 2008
A few months ago if you were to ask me who I was voting for in this year’s Presidential election the answer would have been quick, and without much thought. The answer then would have been Hilary Clinton. If you were to ask that same question again today the answer would be an astounding Barack Obama.
So what changed between then and now you may wonder. If you look back to the previous paragraph you will notice I said I would have chosen Mrs. Clinton without much thought. The difference now is that I am choosing Mr. Obama after a lot of thought. And hence the reason is a lot less complicated than one would think. You see, a few months ago I knew exactly who Hilary Clinton was; she is the wife of former president Bill Clinton – and I happened to have liked Bill Clinton as President. A few months ago I didn’t really know who Barack Obama was, or what he stood for, now I do.
I couldn’t responsibly cast my vote based on just pure uneducated bias, no; I’m a little more responsible than that. If I am going to be biased I would rather make it an educated and responsible one. So I did my research and listen to the candidates as much as I could. At this point I had already had one educated bias in the bags; I wasn’t going to vote Republican, as I’ve seen enough and learned enough over the past eight years - after our friend Bill. At the time of my research and sudden interest in the political arenas of this election, the pool of Democratic Candidates was larger, and hence my work was cut out for me. I was able to quickly narrow things down however, and I chose the candidate that is right for America at this time. I chose the candidate that represented the kinds of changes that I personally would like to see in this nation.
During the last election I was a mere junior in college and unfortunately at the time, I probably cared more about which college party I was going to attend on a given weekend or which young lady I wanted to date more than I cared about who was going to be our next leader. To my credit I at least voted, and voted Democrat (I had seen at least half the mess by then), but this was not enough. Today, being a bit more responsible, I care a whole lot more about who my next leader is. This is the reason why my OWN research was so important and this also is the very reason why I am participating in this blog. It has been proven, four years ago simply showing up at the last minute and voting for the chosen guy was simply not enough, and in fact, because of this a whole lot of us simply didn’t even bother showing up. Others showed up uninformed and uneducated about the issues and ended up voting for the other guy, then we ALL paid the consequences for that - and chances are will continue to pay for some time.
So to answer the question why should I vote for Barack Obama for president? I looked beyond biases and beyond what I saw, knew and thought I knew. Senator Barack Obama challenges us on many levels. He challenges us to be unbiased and fair. He has inspired me to seek for and demand changes; he represents hope in a nation that is heading closer to hopelessness. And even more importantly, he has inspired a lot of people to care and get involved when they usually wouldn’t. I am one of those people. I care about my country and I care about my people. I care about my family, my future and the future of my unborn children. I care enough to not just sit around anymore and wait for others to put someone in the White House who cares more about themselves and their own agendas than the agendas of the people.
Thank you,

Well written!!! Only if more Americans could care that much then we would all be able to get the changes that we so desperately need in this country.

It was because he was for stopping the rampant inflation by phasing out the federal reserve? No…that was Ron Paul
But he wouldn’t engage in pre emptive aggressive war…
no, Pakistan was fair game, that must have been Ron Paul again.
Well, at least it wasn’t true that he was a subscriber to those who have racist views…
now dang it, what is going on here? I am not even supposed to know who Ron Paul is!!??

Dave,
It is apparent that you do know exactly who Ron Paul is. Now what does he have to do with all this? Last time I checked he was no longer in the race. There are three candidates left in the race, and the bottom line is that one will be the next president regardless of what we all think. So instead of whining over Ron Paul I would suggest that you start focusing on who amongst the three is better capable of running this country. None of these last three are perfect and we all know that. FYI… Ron Paul isn’t perfect either. The bottom line is if you are going to single out any one and dwell on one of their flaws forever, you are not progressing. Clear your head of all the baggage and start over with these 3 candidates. Weigh the pros and cons and make the educated biased decision, and regardless of who you choose you will have done the right thing.
